Yesterday I finally took the time to put the end to my Ring Modulator project. I had all parts in the house from the beginning of February this year but never came to it. After a very friendly offer of getting the faceplate professionally punched (at no cost!). I just had to finish it now!
Quick and raw footage of my oscilloscope getting input from a patch in my doepfer a100 system.
Patch is roughly:
Pseudo-Random Pulses made with 2 LFO’s feeding into an A149-1 Source of Uncertainty.
Output (via mixer- see later) of which is filtered by an A128 fixed filterbank which is amplified afterwards by an A119 pre amp.
Output of that is fed back via an A138a mixer into the A128.
Feedback point is crucial for the sound! Actually this feedback functions as the resonance factor of the A128.
Other speciality of this patch is that I actually use the A149-1 as an audio source…
Update: Also posted on the ever so cool Matrixsynth!!

To my (happy!) surprise I saw that Keir Neuringer put up a demo version of his multiple screen video installation “Another World Bank” out on Vimeo. I helped Keir with the audio mastering at the time. The video reminds me how much I enjoyed seeing the end result at the time. See it here.

NRC Handelsblad, a big newspaper in Holland, publiced a review of the CD “Triple” I recorded for Willem van Ekeren. The review is not online on NRC’s site but can be read here.
On September the 7th Ungrund will play the Ground 3 festival. This festival is FREE. The location where we will be performing is not entirely clear to us yet… since the city of The Hague does not have a Leeghwaterstraat. Stay tuned for updates here.
Update: Leeghwaterstraat is not on Google maps.. The street is almost devoured into where the Megastores are now. But the end bit, close to the Gamma store, is still called Leeghwaterstraat. Another mystery solved!
Back in the Netherlands again. I have been working at NoTam with Aslaug Holgersen for way more time than we thought was possible. I am very grateful for NoTam’s hospitality and their general supercoolness, tusen takk! I managed to spend a lot of time programming a very very big patch in Max/MSP. And got quite some form-part sketches ready for the new piece. The final touches will be done this month. And I hope we can perform it somewhere in the near future.
Currently I am almost 16 hours a day working on even more Max/MSP patches. I am building a polyphonic wavetable/waveshaping synth which is going to sound amazing, believe me! Next to that I dabbled a bit with generative music. And I have some sketches for a new tape-piece lying around.
Next to that my electro-acoustic noise unit with Léon Spek, Ungrund, is going to perform on the 7th of September in our hometown The Hague at the Ground 3 festival. No further details yet…
Next to all this there is some theatre sound jobs as always.
btw: Another huge thanks goes out to Kane McGuire at the Cycling 74 offices for swiftly solving the weird registration problems I had with Max5.
The second half of July I will be having some worktime at Notam in Oslo Norway. I will be working on a new piece for Double Bass and Live Electronics (Max/MSP) with Aslaug Holgersen. There will be a fair amount of improvising involved also.
I will be making quite some new Max patches until that time. I will also be testing some different interfaces to control these patches.
Update: Check out Mammut at the Notam site. Highly recommended and very unconventional!
I have recorded about two hours of material for the free improvisation trio of these 3 excellent musicians. The premixes have been made, the selection process will start now. The final result will be released on Processed recordings, the small label I run with Léon Spek. We are all very excited about this as yet unamed project.
